Three Kentucky State University teams will be vying for Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships this week.
GOLF: The men's golf team kicks off its hunt for the SIAC championship Monday in Peachtree City, GA. The three-day event, 18-holes each day, will be played at the Peachtree City Tennis Center.
TRACK & FIELD: Kentucky State travels to Rock Hill, SC for the conference meet starting Thursday. The women's team has three athletes ranked in the top 10 in their respective events, led by senior Chelsey Ford. She is ranked second in the hammer, third in the discus and eighth in the shot put. Ford isn't the lone event athlete ranked in three events as freshman Amani Wagner is second in the shot put, sixth in the discus and sixth in the hammer. Senior Angel Freeman enters the championships fifth in the shot put.
On the men's side, senior Ed Jones in the lone student-athlete to find himself in the top 10 for multiple events. Jones is third in the shot put and seventh in the discus. The Thorobreds have three athletes amongst the top 10 in the steeplechase led by sophomore Mark Johannemann - who is third. Seniors Corey Jones, Jr. and Travon Stephenson are eighth and ninth, respectively, in the event.
Sophomore Harrison Goss is sixth in the high jump, junior Kolan Livingston is fourth in the discus, junior Cameron Galloway is ninth in the javelin and senior David Jelks in 10th in the hammer.
SOFTBALL: After playing Midway University in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday, the Thorobreds travel to Mobile, AL for a critical three-game series with West Division leading Spring Hill Friday and Saturday. The Badgers are 11-2 in the SIAC, and hold a three-game lead over second place Kentucky State entering the weekend.
BASEBALL: The Thorobreds have two non-conference games this week before taking on LeMoyne-Owen in SIAC baseball action Friday and Saturday. Kentucky State plays Cedarville in an nine-inning game Tuesday at the Cincinnati Reds Urban Youth Academy before taking on Asbury Wednesday. KSU and Cedarville split a doubleheader earlier this season, while Kentucky State knocked off Asbury twice this year already.
Senior Joe Crisp and junior Brady Bibbs are scheduled to toe the rubber Saturday, while freshman Solomon Reed and junior Jacob Kelly are probably for Sunday.
