HARROGATE, TN – The Kentucky State University baseball team stepped away from conference action, and fell to Lincoln Memorial Wednesday, 16-2.
The Railsplitters scored in each of their last five at-bats, including a combined 11 runs over the last two.
After Lincoln Memorial took the lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning, senior
Jordan Ransom (Ringgold, GA) connected on his third homerun in as many games, a solo shot, to knot the game in the top of the fourth.
However, LMU quickly regained the advantage with two in the bottom of the fourth. The Railsplitters added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before exploded for four in the seventh and seven in the eighth.
Senior
Cam Starks (Alpharetta, GA) recorded an RBI single in the sixth inning for the Thorobreds' other run. The leftfielder finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Senior
Russell Sims (Harrodsburg, KY) was the only other player with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.
Junior
Jacob Kelly, 0-1, (Shepherdsville, KY) allowed three runs on three hits in 3 2/3 innings of work with four walks and two strikeouts.
Kentucky State (13-6-1 overall) returns to action with a four-game home Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series with Lane College. Junior
Greg Tye (Chattanooga, TN) and senior
Joe Crisp (Shelbyville, KY) are slated to start Saturday's doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
