The Kentucky State University baseball team took both ends of Saturday's doubleheader from Lane College, and put themselves in position to complete the four-game sweep of the Dragons.
GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 10, LANE 4
Kentucky State put three on the board in the bottom of the first inning, and never looked back in recording the game one victory.
The Thorobreds added four runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to open up a 10-1 lead.
Senior
Jay Poullard (Louisville, KY) finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and three RBI, while junior Chase Egnor (Shepherdsville, KY) hit his second homer of the season – going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Senior Cam Starks (Alpharetta, GA) recorded his 12th multi-hit game of the season, hitting 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Junior
Greg Tye, 5-0, (Knoxville, TN) allowed just two runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 9, LANE 5
Senior
Joe Crisp hurled another complete game, and the offense struck for four extra base hits – including two long balls – in posting the 9-5 victory.
Crisp, 3-2, allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts over seven innings.
Senior
Jordan Ransom (Ringgold, GA) got the scoring going with a solo shot in the second, but the Dragons took its lone lead of the doubleheader with a three-run third inning.
A Lane error enabled KSU to tallying three unearned runs to reclaim the lead, but once again, the Dragons pulled even with a run in the fourth.
A three-run shot from sophomore
Adren Thompson (Lexington, KY) blew the game open, and Crisp handled the business for the rest of the game.
Kentucky State recorded nine hits in the game with only Poullard having a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Thompson led the way with four RBI.
The Thorobreds (15-6-1 overall, 4-1 SIAC) will conclude the four-game series with a doubleheader Sunday. The games were moved up to 10 a.m. due to weather. Junior
Brady Bibbs (Hornersville, MO) and freshman
Solomon Reed (Cincinnati, OH) are slated to start Sunday.
