Softball announces 2019 schedule

The Kentucky State University softball team has announced its schedule for the 2019 season.

Initially, the Thorobreds were supposed to kick off its season at the HBCU Division II Tournament in Acworth, GA on February 9 and 10. However, KSU made a last minute addition, against Ferris State on February 4.

"When putting our non-conference schedule, we wanted to schedule teams that will challenge us and show us a style of play that we aren't used to seeing," said Kentucky State University head coach David Morton. "The HBCU tournament is a great chance for us to play CIAA schools and see how we measure up. We also wanted to play as many teams in our area as possible, as these are the teams that we are competing with in the recruiting arena. We went into this with the "Anybody, Anywhere" mentality, and we feel we have the team to step up to the challenge."

Kentucky State will host six teams, four of them non-conference, this season at Lakeview Park. Tuskegee comes to Frankfort for a pair of doubleheaders on March 23 and 24, and LeMoyne-Owen comes to Kentucky for a pair of doubleheaders on March 30 and 31.

In addition to the SIAC games, Walsh (February 23/24), Asbury (April 9), Midway (April 16) and Salem (April 23) all visit Lakeview Park.

"Our home schedule will be a big part of our success," said Morton. "We always have a good showing of fans at our games and that gives our young ladies a boost. We will have some familiar teams along with some new opponents to Frankfort like Walsh, Asbury and Salem. There will definitely be some exciting games along with our conference series against Tuskegee and Lemoyne Owen. We look forward to protecting home."

KSU has road conference four-game sets with Lane (April 6/7), Miles (April 13/14) and Spring Hill (April 20/21).

The Thorobreds travels to Jasper, AL from March 14 to March 16 for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover.
