Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VICKSBURG, MS – The Kentucky State University softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to Division I Alcorn State Friday.

GAME ONE: ALCORN STATE 15, KENTUCKY STATE 1
Freshman Olivia Saylor (Lancaster, KY) gave Kentucky State the early lead with a two-out RBI single, scoring senior Natalia Bocanegra (Covina, CA), who opened the game with a walk.

The Braves took control of the game with a seven-run first inning, sending 13 batters to the plate. Alcorn added four runs in the third inning and another four runs in the fourth inning.  

Senior Jackie Zubiate (Riverside, CA) and freshman Olivia Steward (Salem, IN) had singles for the Thorobreds.

Freshman Katelyn Hurley, 1-1, (Elizabeth, IN) allowed seven earned runs on six hits with four walks in her lone inning of work. Senior Casey Grant (Fort Mitchell, KY) surrendered eight runs on 10 hits with three walks in three innings of action.

GAME TWO: ALCORN STATE 3, KENTUCKY STATE 0
In a pitcher's duel, the Alcorn State Braves scored on back-to-back two-out singles to break a scoreless game in the fourth inning. ASU tacked on an unearned insurance run in the sixth inning.

Kentucky State managed three hits as Saylor, senior Jittaun Thompson (Pomona, CA) and junior Katie Barter (Louisville, KY) recorded singles.

Senior Paola Flores, 2-4, (San Lorenzo, PR) allowed three runs (two earned) on 11 hits in six innings of work.

Kentucky State (4-7) will have a week off before returning to action with a four-game series against Walsh. KSU hosts the Cavaliers for doubleheaders February 23 and 24.
