Box Score ALCORN, MS – The Kentucky State University played small ball and took advantage of a couple miscues as the Thorobreds knocked off Division I Alcorn State, 5-2, in non-conference action.
"We had a great day today, we played well as a team and fought until the end," said Kentucky State University head coach
David Morton. "We had to make some last minute adjustments and our team stepped up big for us. We look to go out there again tomorrow and start right where we left off."
Alcorn State took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first, and the lead stood until the late portion of the game.
Two errors and a single to start the fifth inning left KSU with bases loaded and no outs. Junior
Sasha Allen (West Covina, CA) brought home the first run, scoring on a wild pitch, and then a walk to senior
Natalia Bocanegra (Covina, CA) reloaded the bases with a walk.

Jackie Zubiate (Riverside, CA) singled home the tying run, and a bases loaded walk to sophomore
Moana Pinner (Hilo, HI) gave Kentucky State the 3-2 lead.
The first four batters in the sixth inning reached, three by single and another by error, enabled KSU to tack on a pair of insurance runs. Junior
Katie Barter (Louisville, KY) and freshman
Janae Graham (Morehead, KY) picked RBI singles in the inning.
Senior
Paola Flores, 2-3, (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) allowed two earned runs on five hits in seven innings of work with six strikeouts and three walks.
Freshman
Olivia Steward (Salem, IN) and Allen both recorded their second multi-hit games of the season.
Kentucky State (4-5 overall) returns to the diamond 6:30 p.m. EST Friday for a doubleheader with the same Braves.
