CLINTON, MS – The Kentucky State University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Mississippi College Tuesday.
GAME ONE: Mississippi College 5, Kentucky State 0
The Choctaws scored three runs in the first and another two in the second inning to account for all of the offense.
Sophomore
Moana Pinner (Hilo, HI) recorded her third multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3. She accounted for half of the Kentucky State hits as senior
Natalia Bocanegra (Covina, CA) and senior
Jittaun Thompson (Pomona) had knocks for the 'Breds. Thompson's first inning single extended her hitting streak to six games.
Kentucky State left five runners on base in the contest.
Senior
Paola Flores, 1-3, (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) allowed five runs (three earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
GAME TWO: Mississippi College 8, Kentucky State 0 (5 innings)
For the second straight game, the Choctaws managed early offense, this time scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. They added three runs in the bottom of the third to post the victory.
Pinner recorded the lone hit for the Thorobreds.
Senior
Casey Grant, 1-2, (Fort Mitchell, KY) allowed five earned runs on five hits in her only inning of work. Freshman
Katelyn Hurley (Elizabeth, IN) surrendered three runs on two hits in three innings of action.
Kentucky State (3-5 overall) begins a three-game series 2:30 p.m. EST Thursday with a single game against Division I Alcorn State University. The two teams resume the series 6:30 p.m. EST Friday with a doubleheader.
