Box Score 2 ACWORTH, GA – The Kentucky State softball team split their two games in the second day of the HBCU Division II Tournament Sunday.
GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 10, BOWIE STATE 2
The Thorobreds scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, scored in every inning and cruised to the 10-2 victory.
In her second time in three at-bats, senior
Jackie Zubiate went yard; this one a two-run shot in the first to give KSU the 2-0 lead. Freshman
Olivia Steward, sophomore
Kailen Olison and freshman
Janae Graham all had first inning RBI.
Sophomore
Moana Pinner (Hilo, HI) connected on a solo shot in the second inning, and senior
Natalia Bocanegra singled in the third – scoring Graham from second.
Pinner hit her second bomb to open the fourth inning. A double steal with freshman
Olivia Saylor and Olison produced a second run and then Olison scored on a double by Graham.
Every player reached base via hit or walk as the Thorobreds amassed 10 hits and walked seven times. Pinner was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI, while Bocanegra was 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.
Senior
Casey Grant, 1-1, (Fort Mitchell, KY) allowed two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
GAME TWO: CLAFLIN 8, KENTUCKY STATE 1
Zubiate homered for the third straight game, matching her single-season high, to produce the lone Kentucky State run. She is one long ball from matching her career total.
Senior
Jittaun Thompson and Saylor had the other two hits for the Thorobreds.
Kentucky State took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning before Claflin claimed the lead with four runs in the inning and added four more in the fifth.
Senior
Paola Flores, 1-2, (San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico) took the loss, allowing eight runs – five earned – on nine hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Kentucky State (3-3) travels to Mississippi College for a non-conference doubleheader 2 p.m. Wednesday
