Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brown drops career high 19

SAN JUAN, PR – For the second straight game, a Kentucky State University women's basketball player notched a career scoring game.

In Saturday's 65-55 victory over the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, senior transfer Carnethia Brown (Louisville, Ky.) dropped 19 points on 5-of-12 shooting, including three-pointers, and grabbed a team-high seven boards.

Another senior transfer, Victoria Blankenship (Fayetteville, N.C.) added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Junior Erica Jones (South Haven, Miss.) added nine points for the Thorobreds.

"I was really pleased about the way we started the game," said Kentucky State University head coach Terrance Slater. "We wanted to focus on our execution on offense and defense, and we did a pretty good job during different spurts of the game. Overall we saw some good things, and a win is a win, so we will take it. We have a long way to go but we are excited about the process."

Kentucky State scored 14 of the game's 17 points, and limited home team to just five first-quarter points. The lead stayed in double figured for the vast majority of the rest of the game, and the lead grew to as much as 18 points.

The Thorobreds shot 48 percent (12-of-25) from the field in the first half in never trailing.

Kentucky State (2-0) travels to Division I Western Michigan 7 p.m. Thursday for an exhibition game.
