Box Score 3 SPARTANBURG, S.C. – It was the fight you expect to see from champions.
After falling into the loser's bracket Tuesday, the Kentucky State University volleyball team fought all the way back into the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finals. Unfortunately, the Thorobreds lost to Spring Hill for the second consecutive year, falling in straight sets (25-21, 25-10, 27-25).
To get to the finals, Kentucky State had to open Wednesday with a straight set win over Benedict and then exact a measure of revenge on Albany State by beating the Golden Rams, 3-1.

Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, La.) and junior
Robin Poole (Katy, Texas) were named to the SIAC All-Tournament team.
Kentucky State finishes the 2019 campaign at 25-14.
KENTUCKY STATE 3, BENEDICT 0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19)
Kentucky State scored 11 of the last 14 points to complete the set one comeback. The Thorobreds fell behind 8-3, but rallied to take a 14-11 lead. However, the Tigers answered with six consecutive points to reclaim to advantage.
Benedict took another lead in the second set, and maintained a slim advantage throughout most of the match. Six consecutive Tiger miscues pushed the Kentucky State lead to 21-16, and the Thorobreds secured the 25-20 win.
A 6-2 spurt gave Kentucky State a lead they wouldn't relinquish, and pushed its lead to as much as eight points before securing the victory.
Junior
Jayln Barnett (Detroit, Mich.) recorded her second career double-double with 12 assists and 11 digs, while junior
Sasha Bills (Mesa, Ariz.) finished with a team-high 17 assists.
Poole led the team offensively with 11 kills on 29 attempts, and added eight digs. Freshman
Miana Wallace (Lees Summitt, Mo.) finished with 10 kills on 18 attempts and just one error.
KENTUCKY STATE 3, ALBANY STATE 1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17)
A collaborative effort as the Thorobreds avenged the loss that sent them into the loser's bracket by eliminating Albany State for the second straight season.
Kentucky State trailed early 5-1, 10-4 and 11-7, before eventually pulling even at 15. The Thorobreds continued to push through, and recorded the 25-21 win. Albany State claimed the lead and stayed ahead for the second set, and secured the win to even up the match.
Trailing 10-8 in the third set, Kentucky State scored 10 of the next 12 points to seize momentum. Albany State pulled to within, 19-16, but the Thorobreds tallied the final six points to take the 2-1 advantage.
After taking a 5-2 lead early, KSU held the Golden Rams at bay for the entire match and never allowed them to get to within one point. The Thorobreds scored six of the last seven points to earn a spot in the SIAC championship game for the seventh straight season.
Poole and freshman
Makayla Berry (Orangeburg, S.C.) finished with nine kills each, while freshman
Brianna Etienne (Houston, Texas) added eight kills. Moten contributed seven kills for the Thorobreds.
Wallace led the team with five blocks, five kills and three digs.
Junior
Oyuky Benitez (Laveen, Ariz.) led the team with 18 digs, and Bills distributed 18 assists.
