'Breds shake off slow start to force OT, but fall to TU

TUSKEGEE, AL – The Kentucky State University women's basketball team shook off a slow start to force overtime, but ultimately fell to Tuskegee University Saturday, 57-47, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. (Post Game Interview)

After hitting just one three-pointer in the 40-minute regulation period, the Golden Tigers got back-to-back triples from their post players to spark the game-deciding 14-1 run in the extra period.

Kentucky State struggled from the floor in the first half, hitting just 4-of-28 (14.8 percent) – including 1-of-16 in the second quarter. Despite the shooting woes, the Thorobreds defense allowed them to maintain striking distance. Kentucky State trailed by just eight points at the half.

Back-to-back three-pointers from juniors Jessie Kee (Indianapolis, IN) and Amani Williams (Scotch Plains, NJ) capped a 13-4 spurt to give KSU a two-point lead. It was a lead that the Thorobreds would take into the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The final period featured six ties and five lead changes, and a driving layup by sophomore Erica Jones (South Haven, MS) with 40 seconds remaining forced the final tie of the quarter. Kentucky State was forced get two defensive stops down the stretch. After getting the first stop, a turnover gave Tuskegee possession for one last gasp.

Senior Brooke Wallace (Oberlin, OH) recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Kee added nine points and seven rebounds, while Williams chipped in with nine points.
