GAME PREVIEW: Miles College

The Kentucky State University men's basketball team concludes its final two-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road trip of the season with an 8:30 p.m. EST meeting with West Division-leading Miles College.

THE TEAMS: Kentucky State (6-10 overall, 4-5 SIAC) is a game back of Lane and LeMoyne, whom are tied for third place in the West Division. The Thorobreds have lost three straight games.

Miles (10-4 overall, 7-0 SIAC) is the lone unbeaten team remaining in SIAC play, and carries a three-game winning streak into Monday's game. The Golden Bears are last in scoring offense (62.9 points), but it first in scoring defense (54.2).

THE COACHES: Jamaal Jackson is in his third season at the helm of his alma mater. Kentucky State has been one of the top scoring teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference under Jackson. He came to KSU following a stint at Bluefield State College, where he led them to increased win totals in every season. The same can be said about his tenure at Stillman, where the Tigers improved upon their win totals.

Fred Watson is the men's basketball head coach at Miles College.

THE PLAYERS: Kentucky State boosts two of the top four scorers in the SIAC as senior Kevin Hayes leads the conference with 19.3 points and senior Ditalion Battle is fourth with 16.8 points.

Hayes has scored at least 20 points in five of the last seven games, and has reached the scoring landmark nine times this season.

Battle, the reigning SIAC Player of the Week Ditalion Battle has found his scoring stroke over since the calendar changed to December averaging 19.7 points to boost his scoring average by almost five points. He leads the 'Breds with 49 assists, and fourth in the SIAC. Battle is tied for the team lead with 5.3 boards. The Cincinnati native is also fourth in the SIAC in assist to turnover margin.

Sherrell is averaging 15.2 points in the last five games. He is tied with Battle with a team-high 5.3 rebounds.

Senior guard Devonte Fuller is the only player in double figures with 10.6 points per game and is pulling down a team-best 5.8 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jelani Watson-Gayle, a Benedict transfer, is second on the team with 9.6 points.

Senior guard Damien Archer leads the Golden Bears with 46 assists as the team has assisted on 53 percent of their buckets.
