Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Career highs for Poole, Moore in win

Sophomore Robin Poole finished with a career-high 18 kills as the Kentucky State University volleyball team rebounded from an early deficit to post a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-17) victory over Centre College Wednesday in non-conference action at the Exum Center.

Poole (Katy, TX) has reached double-figure kills three times this season and 25 times in her career. With the Thorobreds trying to put their visitors away, Poole was instrumental in the game-deciding run. As sophomore libero Aisha Cruz (Puerto Rico) served, KYSU scored 11 consecutive fourth-set points to put a stranglehold on the match. During the pivotal stretch, Poole scored four of the 11 points.

Kentucky State used the game-deciding spurt to overcome a six-point deficit.

It was the first time in nine attempts KYSU rebounded from a first-set loss to record the victory.

Joining Poole with double-figure kills was freshman Mariah Peachey (Liverpool, OH), who tallied 11 kills. She has registered more than 10 kills twice this season.

Sophomore Jalynn Roberts (Davenport, IA) was proficient in her offensive attack with nine kills on just 13 attempts and one error.

Sophomore Amanda Moore (Caddo Mills, TX) distributed a career-best 31 assists, marking the nine time this season and 12th time in her career she reached double-figure assists. Sophomore Gabriella Gracia (Trullio Alto, Puerto Rico) added 12 assists.

Freshman Alliyah Williams (Sugarland, TX) keyed the Thorobred defense with 14 digs. Senior Arlandria Greathouse (Crowley, TX) was great at the net with four solo blocks and two block assists, while Peachey chipped in with one solo block and three block assists.

Kentucky State (2-9) returns to the court Friday and Saturday in Athens, WVa. The Thorobreds play Gannon 10 a.m. Friday and Virginia-Wise 4 p.m. Friday.
