ALBANY, GA - The Kentucky State University volleyball team swept through the first day of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Crossover held at Albany State University. The Thorobreds won all three of their matches by identical 3-0 scores in improving to 6-2 in conference action.
KENTUCKY STATE 3, PAINE 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-8)
The Thorobreds were impressive in their straight set dismantling of Paine, 25-18, 25-12, 25-8.
Sophomore
Gabriella Gracia (Trullio Alto, Puerto Rico) has really came on of late, and finished the game with 31 assists. She was an equal opportunist as eight Thorobreds recorded kills.
Sophomore
Robin Poole (Katy, TX) led the way with nine kills on 20 attempts, while senior
Arlandria Greathouse (Crowley, TX) and senior
Brooke Moore (Bloomfield, MI) added eight kills each for Kentucky State.
Freshman
Alliyah Williams (Sugar Land, TX) recorded double-digit digs for the 19th time this season, finishing with a team-high 13. Sophomore
Makayla Martin (Combine, TX) added 10 digs in the victory. Â
KENTUCKY STATE 3, BENEDICT 0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-17)
Gracia continued to impress distributing the ball, dishing out 31 of the team's 35 assists in the 25-12, 25-9, 25-17 victory.
Greathouse led the team with 11 kills on 19 assists, while Poole finished with eight. Sophomore
Spenser Parks (Louisville, KY) and sophomore
Jalynn Roberts (Davenport, IA) added seven apiece.
Williams finished with 17 digs, and freshman
Khirra Kenney (Indianapolis, IN) registered 10 digs.
KENTUCKY STATE 3, FORT VALLEY STATE (25-14, 25-13, 25-14)
A pair of Thorobreds tallied double-figure kills as Kentucky State completed the first day unbeaten with the three-game (25-14, 25-13, 25-14) sweep of Fort Valley State.
Poole led the way with 13 kills and Greathouse added 10 kills for the day.
For the third straight game, Gracia distributed at least 30 assists with 39 against FVSU. Williams recorded a team-high 16 digs to lead KSU.
Kentucky State wraps up play in the SIAC Crossover Friday with a 1 p.m. match with host Albany State and a 5 p.m. match against Clark Atlanta.
