Sophomore
Robin Poole tallied 25 kills over two matches as the Kentucky State volleyball team earned their first win over the season, splitting a pair of matches during a non-conference tri-match at the Exum Center Tuesday.
The Thorobrettes lost a two-game lead in falling to IU-Southeast, 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 24-21, 16-14, before rebounding with a straight-set win over Concord, 25-19, 25-20, 28-26. It was also the victory for head coach
DiShondra Goree as the KSU head coach.
Kentucky State (1-5 overall) travels to Detroit, MI Friday and Saturday for the 2018 Warrior Invitational at Wayne State University. KYSU plays host Wayne State 2 p.m. Friday before playing Tiffin University at 5 p.m.
IU-SOUTHEAST RECAP
Leading 17-11 in the third set, victory appeared imminent for the Thorobrettes, however, IU-Southeast stormed back to claim the set, stealing momentum in the process. Neither team was able to blow away the other, but it was IUS that was able make enough plays to remain unbeaten.
KYSU did just enough to help its visitors in the third set with 12 errors on 35 attempts with just 11 kills.
Poole (Katy, TX) and freshman
Mariah Peachey (Liverpool, OH) finished with 13 kills each with Poole being very efficient in her offense. The sophomore outside hitter hit .429 with 13 kills on 28 attempts and just one error.
Sophomore
Amanda Moore (Caddo Mills, TX) dished out 21 assists, while classmate
Gabriella Gracia (Trullia Alto, Puerto Rico) added 16 for the Thorobrettes. Freshman
Alliyah Williams (Sugarland, TX) recorded 21 digs, and sophomore
Makayla Martin (Combine, TX) added 12 digs and nine kills.
CONCORD RECAP
Kentucky State came out offense ablazing, hitting .500 with 20 kills on 34 attempts with just three errors in the opening set, and while it cooled off slightly, KYSU maintained enough of an offensive edge to complete the three-set sweep.
Senior
Arlandria Greathouse (Crowley, TX) and Poole finished with 12 kills each. Poole was the first player this season with a double-double, completing the statistical feat with 10 digs.
It was Greathouse that was nearly unstoppable at the net with 12 kills on 17 attempts and just two errors for a .588 hitting percentage. She was fantastic at the net defensively with two solo blocks and three block assists as the Thorobrettes finished with four solo blocks and eight block assists in the victory.
Moore distributed a season-high 27 assists and Gracia chipped in with 16 assists. Williams led the team with 12 digs.
