EVANSVILLE, IN - In their second game of the USI Invitational, the Kentucky State volleyball team fell to host Southern Indiana in straight sets (25-18, 25-13, 25-17) Friday.
The Thorobrettes (0-2) return to the court 11 a.m. Saturday, facing Edinboro, and will wrap up play in the USI Invitational with a 4:30 p.m. meeting against Ohio Dominican.
After being tied at 16 in the first set, the Screaming Eagles scored nine of the final 11 points to secure the victory. Kentucky State scored the first three points of the second set, but a 11-1 spurt midway through by USI allowed the hosts to pull ahead. The Screaming Eagles had another stretch in which they tallied eight of nine points to extend the lead to 13.
Another long stretch points, this one, ten of 11 by USI, turned a two-point Thorobrette lead into a seven-point deficit in the final set. KSU couldn't muster an answering run to get back into the game.
Senior middle blocker
Arlandria Greathouse (Crowley, TX) and freshman outside hitter
Mariah Peachey (Liverpool, OH) finished with six kills each. Greathouse hit .118 with her six kills on 17 attempts, while Peachey recorded her six kills on 19 attempts.
Sophomore
Makayla Martin (Combine, TX) added five kills on 17 attempts and six digs. Sophomore
Robin Poole (Katy, TX) finished with a team-high 10 digs to go along with four kills.
Sophomore
Amanda Moore (Caddo Mills, TX) led the way with 14 assists, and sophomore
Gabriella Gracia (Trullio Alto, Puerto Rico) recorded nine assists in the loss.
