Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

@KYSUMBB holds on for SIAC win

MEMPHIS, TN – The Kentucky State University men's basketball team trailed less than two of the game's 40 minutes, and by no more than one point, in surviving a last second shot to beat LeMoyne-Owen, 91-90, Monday within the confines of a hostile Bruce-Johnson Hall in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. (Post Game Comments)

Kentucky State broke open a tied game at the half by scoring 14 of the first 17 points in the second half. It was the first double-figure lead of the game. Back-to-back Magician three-pointers brought life into the Hall and LeMoyne-Owens was finding some juice.

During the run, LOC went 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. However, it wasn't like the 'Breds went into the tank offensively, and Kentucky State still maintained its lead. The Magicians pulled to within one with 6:32 remaining, but couldn't take the lead as KSU went on a quick 10-4 spurt to gain some breathing room.

As quick as the lead was built, it was gone. LeMoyne-Owens scored seven straight and with three minutes remaining – the game was deadlocked.

Back-to-back buckets from senior Ditalion Battle (Cincinnati, OH) allowed the Thorobreds to maintain its lead, and more importantly, he came up with back-to-back defensive stops to preserve the win. The senior guard dropped a season-high 28 points with a team-high seven boards.

Three players – redshirt junior Felix Wilson (Lexington, KY), senior Kevin Hayes (Detroit, MI) and junior Grant Goode (Matawan, NJ) – all tallied at least 10 points. Wilson finished with a season-high 18 points, while for the first time this season, Hayes – who had 16 points – wasn't the leading scorer. Hayes distributed a team-high four assists, and Goode added 10 points.

Kentucky State (4-4 overall, 2-2 SIAC) travels to Salem, WV for the Joe Michan Tournament Saturday and Sunday. The Thorobreds play host Salem 7 p.m. Saturday.
