Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Triple-double for Battle

When Austin Sherrell laid the ball into the basket with 1:35 remaining in the game, it would have been an excellent time for Ice Cube's "It Was a Good Day" to play over the William Exum Center speakers as he went to the free throw line as senior Ditalion Battle had messed around and got a triple-double.

Battle (Cincinnati, OH) finished 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists as the Kentucky State men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak and moved back to .500 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with the 91-88 victory over Clark Atlanta Monday.

It was the first triple-double in the Jamaal Jackson era.

While the advantage was only three points, the contest wasn't really that close as the Panthers scored 14 points in the final 42 seconds to make the score look closer.

The second half did feature eight lead changes and a pair of ties with Kentucky State holding the halves largest lead of five points three times. For the span of six minutes, the teams seemingly traded baskets, and when Clark Atlanta scored with 6:34 remaining, the KSU lead was just one point.

Then, Kentucky State started to get some stops.

The Thorobreds forced three turnovers and limited the Panthers to just one basket in five attempts in growing their advantage to 11 points in the span of four minutes. With less than a minute remaining, the bulge was 15 points and KSU was on the verge of cruising to a win.

CAU had different plans, hitting four three-pointers and two free throws in the final 42 seconds, the last three-pointer coming at the buzzer.

Senior Kevin Hayes (Detroit, MI) scored more than 20 points for the sixth time this season, tallying 22 points with eight assists. Sherrell (Detroit, MI) added 14 points, while redshirt junior Felix Wilson (Lexington, KY) finished with 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.

Kentucky State (5-7 overall, 3-3 SIAC) takes a 14-day break before returning to action. KSU travels to Benedict College 3 p.m. December 31 in SIAC play.
