Prior to the game, KSU honored the contributions of its 14-member senior class. The honorees were Paul Campbell, Matthew Bizimana, Demetrius Anderson, Cort Groathouse, Michael Simpson, Bryshaun Brown, Kameron Gomness, Tommy Craig, Marcus Campbell, Jr., James Brace, Turner Warren and Eddie Jones, Chris Roberts and Keonte Reynolds.

Neither team generated much offense in the first quarter as the two teams combined for 39 first-quarter yards. It was a second quarter fumble that set the Tigers up in optimal scoring position on the four yardline. Three running plays later, Benedict scored its first touchdown of the contest. However, it would miss the extra point.

Kentucky State turned it over again on the next possession, this time an interception, gave the ball back to Benedict. The Tigers marched 78 yards on eight plays for another touchdown. This time is was a bad snap that prevented Benedict from converting the extra point.

The final Benedict score came as a backwards pass was scooped and returned it 65 yards to paydirt. Another bad snap kept the Tigers from attempting the extra point.
A depleted Thorobreds offense - playing without five starters, including quarterback Jules St. Ge – was limited to 94 yards of total offense.

Redshirt sophomore Jordan White (Louisville, KY) finished with 22 yards on four carries. Senior Paul Campbell threw for 86 yards on 6-of-16 passing with one interception.

Defensively, junior Myrthel Stewart (Glenwood, IL) led the way with 10 tackles, including one for loss, and senior Chris Roberts (Frankfort, KY) added nine tackles, three for loss and one sack. Junior Jalen Dingle (Detroit, MI) had four tackles for loss with two sacks, while junior Phillip Francis (Louisville, KY) added a pair of sacks.
