ST. LOUIS, MO – The Kentucky State University women's basketball team fell in non-conference action Wednesday to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 76-58, at the Mark Twain Building.
In the game in which the statistics were similar, the primary difference came from the three-point line as the Tritons connected on 12 three-pointers, while the Thorobreds went 0-for-5 from beyond the arc. The Thorobreds actually shot at a higher percentage from the field and made more field goals, but couldn't overcome the long-range disparity.
The Thorobreds doubled up UMSL, 50-24, in points in the paint and had a 12-5 advantage on second chance points.
Kentucky State started fast with eight of the first 11 points, but UMSL scored eight of the last 10 first-quarter points to build a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Senior
Brooke Wallace (Oberlin, OH) tallied a double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore
Erica Jones (South Haven, MS) added 14 points and seven boards.
Junior
Jessie Kee (Indianapolis, IN) added 10 points for the Thorobreds. Sophomore
Khaliah Herbert dished out a team-high three assists.
Kentucky State (3-2) travels to Fort Valley State University 1 p.m. Saturday to kick off Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. Â
