Faced with 40 minutes of a pesky zone, the bigger Thorobreds struggled the smaller, scrappy Wildcats, and ultimately couldn't make enough plays down the stretch. Kentucky State went to the line 27 times and held a plus-22 edge on the glass. However, KSU committed 30 turnovers while forcing just 14.
The Wildcats turned a two-point lead into a 10-point advantage by scoring 10 of the first 11 points of the second quarter. FVSU took a seven-point lead into the locker room.
Kentucky State showed life to start the second half, and when junior
Amani Williams capped a 13-4 run with a three-pointer – the Thorobreds led. However, the prosperity just last long, and FVSU led heading into the final 10 minutes.
Back-to-back baskets to start the fourth quarter gave the Wildcats more momentum, and they pushed the lead to 10 points before holding on to mount the upset.
Senior
Brooke Wallace tallied her third straight double-double of the season with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while sophomore
Khaliah Herbert added nine points and seven rebounds.
Kentucky State (3-3 overall, 0-1 SIAC) travels to Albany State 5:30 p.m. Monday for another SIAC road game.
