@KYSUWBB doubles up, declaws Tigers

Defense was the name of the game as the Kentucky State women's basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season, doubling up University of Campbellsville Harrodsburg, 82-41, Saturday in non-conference action at the William Exum Center. (Post Game Conference)

The Thorobreds held UCH to just 21.4 percent shooting from the field, forced 25 turnovers and held a plus-34 edge on the glass. The 25 turnovers enabled Kentucky State to tally 31 fast break points.

Kentucky State locked up a Tigers team that came into the game averaging 88.5 points, holding them to just two points in the first quarter. Campbellsville managed just one made field goal in the quarter, shooting 1-of-13 from the field. The Tigers missed all six of their free throw attempts as well.

Every quarter saw KSU increase its scoring total from 16 points to 17 to 21 and finally 28 points in the fourth quarter. Kentucky State shot 44.2 percent in the second half as it kept the Tigers from getting back into the game.

Two players – senior Tara Jefferson (Milwaukee, WI) and sophomore Erica Jones (South Haven, MS) – finished the game with double-doubles. A KSU player has recorded the statistical landmark in every game this season. Jefferson led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds, six of the rebounds coming on the offensive end, while Jones added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Sophomore Khaliah Herbert (Crete, IL) tabulated 13 points with five boards.
