THE TEAMS: Kentucky State is coming off an 85-63 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan in the season opener. Senior Kevin Hayes led the way with 26 points on 11-of-17 shooting, while senior Ditalion Battle was the other player in double figures with 13 points on 3-of-13 shooting.
Wilberforce recently had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 100-80 loss to Harris Stowe. The Bulldogs have lost a pair of exhibition games, 91-67 to Ohio University and 99-58 to Toledo, since playing its last game.
THE COACHES: Jamaal Jackson is in his third season at the helm of his alma mater. The Thorobreds are 18-37 under Jackson. Kentucky State has been one of the top scoring teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference under Jackson. He came to KSU following a stint at Bluefield State College, where he led them to increased win totals in every season. The same can be said about his tenure at Stillman, where the Tigers improved upon their win totals.
Kevin Waters is in his second season leading Wilberforce. He returned to collegiate coaching after a successful stint with the ABA's Jacksonville Giants. Waters led the Giants to six straight final four appearances. His previous college coaching stints include serving as an assistant basketball coach at Murray State University, Kennesaw State University, where he won a Division II NCAA National Title, and at Edward Waters College going to the NAIA National Tournament two consecutive years.
