Jackson, Tenn.— Freshman pitcher
Kaija Aikman (3-5) threw her third straight complete game, as she led the way for Kentucky State University softball in an 8-2 victory in the final game of a three-game series with Lane College on Sunday afternoon.
The Thorobrettes (9-18, 7-4) have won seven of their last eight games after starting the season 2-17. Five of their last seven wins have come against SIAC opponents, putting them in the top half of the West Division standings.
Aikman has played a vital role in the Thorobrettes current stretch, earning victories against LeMoyne-Owen College, Bluefield State College, and Lane College. In each of those victories, she has struck out eight or more batters, including two separate performances of striking out nine. Aikman now leads the KSU pitching staff in wins with three and strikeouts at 39.
KSU was held scoreless through the first two innings, but senior centerfielder
Tyniesha Wilson broke the 0-0 tie in the top of the third, smashing her first home run of the season to right field, giving the visitors the 2-0 advantage. The Thorobrettes added two more runs for a 4-0 cushion heading into the bottom half of the inning.
LC cut the lead in half at 4-2, after a two-run home run by first baseman Ericka Webst, but Aikman would answer, hurling a scoreless final four frames.

Kaitlin Oshiro launched her team-leading third homer of the season in the seventh inning, adding insurance to the KSU lead at 7-2. Oshiro finished her day at the plate going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Katelyn Drake each went 2-for-4, joining Oshiro with multi-hit games.
The Thorobrettes will finish off the 2017 season with five games in the Capitol City. Next up will a three-game series with Tuskegee University on Apr. 8 and 9, followed by the season finale on Apr. 17 against BSC with a doubleheader on Senior Day.Â
