Louisville, Ky.—Kentucky State University softball dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday to Bellarmine University at Knights Field.

The Thorobrettes (0-12) will have a week-long hiatus before they head south to take on Miles College in SIAC play on Mar. 11. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1:00 pm ET.

The Knights struck fast and struck early against KSU starting pitcher freshman
Kaija Aikman. BU pushed four runs across in the first, followed by three more in the second as they held a 7-1 advantage.

Junior third baseman
Brittney Gately provided a spark for the KSU offense has she drove in senior first baseman
Kaitlin Oshiro for a RBI single in the third, to bring the KSU deficit to 7-2. BU add another run in the fourth for an eventual final of 8-2.

Oshiro notched her second multi-hit game of the season as she went 2-for-4 with a double. Aikman was appointed the loss, her third of the season.

KSU took a 1-0 lead after freshman right fielder
Natalia Bocanegra cashed in with a RBI single to left field, scoring Gatley from third in the top of the first.

Despite the early KSU advantage, the Knights' bats swung freely for eight runs against freshman pitcher
Courtney Payne in the bottom half of the inning. A lead KSU couldn't overcome in the later innings, dropping the second game of the day 15-4.

Oshiro and senior catcher
Emily Ross each went deep for their first home runs of the season. Oshiro has started every game this season and currently leads the Thorobrettes with a .290 batting average. Â
