Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

Jasper, Ala.—Kentucky State University softball picked its first win of the season, plus another at the SIAC Crossover expanding three days of doubleheader competition.

The Thorobrettes (2-15, 2-4) sit in the middle of the pack of the SIAC Western Division after the competitive week against conference foes. They'll travel to Owensboro, Kentucky on Wednesday for a doubleheader with Kentucky Wesleyan College, followed by a three-game homes series with LeMoyne-Owen College on Saturday and Sunday.

Game 1: CAU 5 KSU 1

KSU fell behind early as the Panthers put up a 4-0 run lead on freshman pitcher Chante Thome (0-4).

The offense failed to mount a comeback on CAU, only picking up three hits against Ajada Cofield. Senior first baseman Kaitlin Oshiro went 1-for-3 with a RBI to lead the Thorobrettes.

Game 2: KSU 5 ASU 2

Freshman pitcher Courtney Payne (1-4) threw a complete game and picked up first win of the season, striking out three, while only allowing three hits, and two earned runs.

Senior third baseman Katelyn Drake and junior left fielder Alysha Sakamura each went 2-for-4 from the plate and drove in two RBIs to lead the KSU lineup in the victory.

Game 3: CU 6 KSU 5

Claflin University held a 5-1 victory heading into the sixth inning, but KSU stepped up to the challenge and put the Lady Panthers in a tight position.

Sakamura got things going with a RBI single to drive in Oshiro, to cut the deficit in half at 4-2. The Thorobretts added three more runs with smart base running and capitalizing on CU mistakes, taking a 5-4 lead heading into the final frame.

Freshman pitcher Kaija Aikman (0-4) allowed two runs in the seventh, putting the Lady Panthers back up for good at 6-5.

Game 4: KSU 21 FVSU 3

The Thorobrettes struck fast, early, and often as they dismantled the Lady Wildcats from beginning to end.

Sophomore shortstop Jittaun Thompson led the offensive attack as she went 3-for-5 with six RBIs. She also scored two runs and swiped two stolen bases in the process.

Thome followed Thompson's performance as she went 4-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs. Junior infielder Brittney Gately added a 2-for-3 performance, driving in three RBIs, and scoring three runs.

Sophomore pitcher Emily Jenkins (1-1) pitched her first career complete game, striking out a career-high 11 batters over five innings of work.

Game 5: BC 17 KSU 6

Benedict College put up 13 runs over the course of the three innings before KSU could find its groove offensively.

Thompson continued her hot streak from the fourth game of the Crossover for a 3-for-4 afternoon at the plate with two RBIs. She was the lone Thorobrette to record a multi-hit game against the Lady Tigers pitching trio of Rees, James, and Roberts.

Payne (1-5) was saddled with the loss as she two and two-third innings, allowing 11 runs, six earned.
