Vicksburg, Miss. - Kentucky State University softball lost both games in a doubleheader against Alcorn State University to start the 2017 campaign on Thursday night.

The Thorobrettes will travel to SIAC opponent Spring Hill College for a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

KSU (0-1) allowed ten runs in the first four innings before getting on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. With runners on second and third and one out, senior first baseman
Kaitlin Oshiro drilled a two-run double down the line to give ASU a 10-2 advantage.

The Thorobrettes were unable to mount a comeback, dropping their season opener in the process.

Chante Thome was appointed the loss, giving up eight earned runs off nine hits in three innings for KSU. Oshiro went 1-for-3 with two RBI while sophomore shortstop
Jittaun Thompson went 2-for-2 with a stolen base for KSU.

The Thorobrettes struggled against the hot bats of ASU, as the Lady Braves scored 13 uncontested runs to hand KSU its second loss of the night.

The visitors' bats were cold in the second game, as they left seven runners on base and were outhit 15-5 in the game.

Emily Jenkins was handed her first loss of the season, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits and walking three batters. Junior outfielder
Alysha Sakamura went 2-for-3 with a double while Oshiro and Thompson each went 1-for-3 for the Thorobrettes.
