Frankfort, Ky. – Kentucky State University, men's basketball, earned an SIAC victory over Miles College Monday night, 96-89 at the Exum Center.
The Thorobreds (6-10, 5-4 SIAC) were led by senior guard
Malcolm Smith as he scored a game-high 33 points, hitting 12-of-17 from the field. Early in the first half, Smith etched his name in the KSU basketball history books as he hit one of his six shots from behind the arc, pushing the Cincinnati, Ohio native over the 1,000 career point plateau.
Junior guard
Dorian Jordan recorded his fourth double-double of the season, netting 21 points to go along with his 10 assists in the contest.
KSU struggled offensively in the first half, shooting only 16-of-37 from the floor. Despite the offensive woes, The Thorobreds only trailed by six, making the score 48-42 going into halftime.
Following the break, KSU heated up as they nailed 15 of their 29 field goal attempts as well as 21-of-27 attempts from the charity stripe to outscore the Golden Bears 54-41 in the final frame to earn its sixth victory of the season.
The Thorobreds' unselfishness on offense and tough play defensively were the keys to victory. Four players scored in double digits and forced the Golden Bears to commit 20 turnovers in the contest.
KSU will travel to Central State University for SIAC action Saturday night at 8:00 p.m.
