Frankfort, Ky – Kentucky State University volleyball overcame a 2-0 deficit to pick up a come-from-behind victory over Kentucky Wesleyan College on Tuesday night at the Exum Center.
 
Senior outside hitters Sherry'ce Butler and Tahje Ochs tied for a game-high 13 kills while senior setter Anjelique Kyle recorded a game-high 42 assists and tallied 14 digs for the hosting Thorobrettes.
 
The Thorobrettes (12-7) struggled in the first set as they were unable to contain the Panthers' high-octane offense, trailing early in the match 8-1 prior to the game's first timeout before eventually dropping the first set 25-13.
 
KSU led by as much as six points in the second set, outscoring KWC 12-6 halfway through the set. The lead would be short-lived as KWC went on a run of its own, outscoring the Thorobrettes 19-11 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
The Thorobrettes' resiliency shined in the third set, picking up an early 5-2 lead before giving up five straight points to trail 7-5 before a timeout was called by the home team. The remainder of the set was closely contested, as neither team held more than a four-point lead before the match was tied again at 22. KSU would outscore KWC 3-1 to close out the third set, staying alive in the contest.
 
KSU controlled the fourth set, never trailing en route to a 25-15 win to force a fifth-and-final set of the contest.
 
KSU dominated the final set of the match as well, pulling out to an early 9-0 lead over the Panthers. KWC would make a comeback of its own, pulling with four points to trail 14-10 before sophomore middle blocker Payton Richardson smashed the game-winning kill to end the match.
 
KSU will hit be on the road Friday as they will face off against Lewis University at 7:00 p.m. in Rensselar, Indiana.
