Frankfort, Ky.-- A wet and sloppy environment set the tone for Kentucky State University football in a 20-7 loss at Alumni Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Thorobreds (0-3) are winless in their first three games of 2016, duplicating the same result from the 2015 season. The Trojans (3-0) are off to their best start in five years.

With the rain periodically falling throughout the day and wreaking havoc on the field of play, KSU fought through the mud with VSU but trailed going into the half, 13-0. The Thorobreds shot out of the gate to begin the third quarter as freshman quarterback Jules St Ge, found sophomore wide receiver Demetrius Anderson on a screen play to the left, breaking free for a 57-yard touchdown play, pulling the home squad within six.

The running attack of the Trojans and the nasty conditions proved to be too much, as VSU added another touchdown in the early part of the fourth quarter to go up 20-7.

St. Ge finished his first career start with 103 yards through the air and a touchdown while scampering for 55 yards on the ground, both team-highs. Anderson picked up a career-high 80 yards on five catches.

Three Thorobreds finished the day with double-digit tackles, as freshman defensive lineman Myrthel Stewart Jr. recorded a team-high 14 tackles. Senior linebacker Travon Spencer followed up with a season-high 11 wrap-ups, as did junior defensive lineman Rodriquez Jones.

KSU will now head to Indianapolis, Ind. to take on Central State University in the Circle City Classic on Sept. 24, kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN 3.
