Saturday's Circle City Classic game between Kentucky State and Central State had the highest attendance of any NCAA Division II football game of the week, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.
A crowd of 22,523 was on hand at Lucas Oil Stadium, the home of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, to see what would be a 21-17 Kentucky State victory. Trailing 17-14 late in the fourth quarter, the Thorobreds drove 80 yards in seven plays, with
Alex Springs finding
Corey Slaughter for the winning touchdown.
Kentucky State and Central State are currently in the middle of a multi-year agreement with the Indiana Black Expo that will have the two teams playing their annual rivalry game in the Circle City Classic through at least 2017. Now in its 32nd season, the Circle City Classic football game raises funds for college scholarships, and has helped the Indiana Black Expo award more than $3.4 million to students since 1984.Â
