FRANKFORT, Ky. - Freshman
Gayla Ha-Cabebe smashed three home runs in as many games to help the Kentucky State University softball team earn a 3-game sweep of the visiting Tuskegee Lady Golden Tigers this past weekend at Lakeview Park.
The three SIAC West Division wins help the Thorobrettes improve their record to 14-13 overall and 13-3 in conference action. Their final win of the weekend put KSU over .500 for the first time this season.
Kentucky State was solid in all facets this weekend. The Thorobrettes hit .300 from the plate as a team, committed just five errors, compared to 13 for TU, and had a combined ERA of 2.84 from the pitching duo of
Cheyenne Carpenter and
Brittney Gately.
Ha-Cabebe went 4-of-9 (.444) from the plate, drew a pair of walks, drove in 12 RBI and had a 1.556 slugging percentage in the three games this weekend. Gately was a dual threat for KSU, picking up a complete game win in the second game of the series and hitting .364 from the plate with four runs and four RBI.
Carpenter picked up a pair of complete game wins to push her season record to 9-6 overall, 9-1 in her last 10 decisions. Carpenter struck-out 15 batters in just 14 innings of work. She leads the Thorobrettes with a 2.41 ERA this season.
Kentucky State now head's out on the road for non-conference games against Bluefield State on April 1
st before heading to Jackson, Tenn. for a weekend series against Lane on April 3-4.
