Box Score 2 FRANKFORT, Ky. – On Sunday afternoon, the Kentucky State University softball team swept the LeMoyne-Owen Lady Magicians in an SIAC doubleheader that kicks off a four-game series at Lakeview Park.

Kentucky State (7-20, 5-8 SIAC) hit .460 from the plate as a team in the pair of games while solid pitching performances from
Danielle Acosta and
Tayler Vierra allowed LeMoyne-Owen (0-16, 0-7) to hit just .289 as a unit.

GAME 1
Despite the fact that LeMoyne-Owen scored at least one run in every inning of Sundays opening game, the Thorobreds used offensive outburst in the second and third innings to outpace the Lady Magicians by a final score of, 16-8.

Myeshia Ellison led the way for the Thorobrettes offensively, going 3-for-4 from the plate, including a towering 3-RBI homerun in the third inning that put KSU ahead, 10-4. Ellison finished the game with five RBI and three runs.

With one out in the opening inning, LeMoyne-Owen went ahead 1-0 after Lady Magician shortstop Rhonda Willis (2-for-3, 2 runs/2 RBI) hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield that allowed Tiara Hall (2-for-4, 2 runs/1 RBI) to tag and score from third. While LOC was able to put at least one run on the board in every inning, they never scored more than two and couldn't stop KSU defensively.

Kristina Oshiro finished 1-for-2 from the plate, driving in three runs and drawing a pair of walks.

Danielle Acosta (2-6) pitched all six innings for the Thorobrettes. Acosta allowed 12 hits and eight earned runs.

LOC starter LaRaya Fisher was saddled with the loss after allowing nine hits at 14 runs in just 2.1 innings of work.

GAME 2
The Thorobrettes continued their hot hitting in the second game and starting pitcher
Tayler Vierra (4-7) threw a 5.0 inning one-hitter to lead KSU to the 9-0 victory.

Vierra allowed just one LeMoyne-Owen batter to reach base, giving up no walks and just one hit. She struck out three LOC batters on Sunday.

Inez Hudson,
Kristina Oshiro and
Myeshia Ellison all picked up a pair of hits in the game. Hudson picked up a pair of her game-high 3-RBI when she smashed a 2-run homerun over the leftfield wall in the bottom of the third inning.

Rhonda Willis was given the loss for the Lady Magicians after surrendering eight hits and seven earned runs in 4.0 innings.
