Box Score 2 FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky State softball team finished off their three-game series against the Miles College Lady Golden Bears with a doubleheader on Monday at Lakeview Park. In the first game, Miles completed an impressive comeback to win 14-13 before Kentucky State got revenge in the second game, winning 7-5 to close out the series.
Game 1
In the first game of Mondays doubleheader the teams combined for six homeruns as the teams went back-and-forth early before Miles put up seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to complete a, 14-13, comeback victory.
Both teams started strong, picking up a pair of runs each in the first inning.
With the score tied at 2-2, Kentucky State opened things up in the bottom of the third inning.
Krystyna Fisher reached firstbase on a Miles error and
Palaura Parker came home to score. A few batters later, starting first baseman
Jasmine Villamar smashed a homerun over the leftfield wall to push the KSU lead to 6-2.
Miles struck back in the top of the fourth when right fielder Keyana Chatman and first baseman Brianna Barrentine hit back-to-back home runs and tied the game at 6-6. Chatman finished 3-for-5 from the plate with two homeruns and seven RBI in the opening game.
The Thorobrettes answered right back in the bottom of the inning when leadoff hitter
Inez Hudson hit a 2-run homerun over the left centerfield wall to put KSU back on top, 8-6. Hudson went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs.
In the bottom of the fifth shortstop
Palaura Parker and
Kenya Wilcots both reached base on consecutive plays with one out and the bases loaded to put KSU ahead of Miles, 10-6. A sacrifice fly from
Megan Jaramillo scored Hudson from third before a
Jaida Young single dropped into right field and scored Wilcots and Parker to extend the Kentucky State lead to 13-6.
KSU loaded the bases again in the bottom of the sixth inning but Miles' relief pitcher Megan Honea struck out two consecutive Thorobrette batters to get out of the inning unscathed.
Hudson was brought in to pitch relief for KSU in the fifth. She pitched two effective innings but ran into trouble during the top of the seventh. The Lady Golden Bears strung together six hits and seven runs to take the lead at 14-13.
In the bottom of the seventh, Fisher kicked things off with a double that she ripped down the left field line. A wild pitch moved Fisher to third base as the potential game-tying run. Miles' Talana Brown entered the game and forced a groundout before striking out the final two KSU batters to earn the save and secure the comeback victory for Miles.
Megan Jaramillo went 3-for-4 with three RBI in the opening game on Monday.

Shannon Byrum lasted four innings, allowing eight hits and six earned runs.
Hudson (0-1) was given the loss after allowing nine hits and eight runs in 2.1 innings pitched.
Honea (1-0) was credited with the victory despite allowing six hits and five runs in just two innings of work.
Game 2
The Thorobrettes rode a solid pitching performance from starter
Tayler Vierra and held on for a 7-5 victory in the second game of the day.
After a scoreless first two innings, Miles threatened in the top of the third when power hitter Keyana Chatman stepped to the plate with runners on first and third. KSU starting pitcher Chatman made solid contact but leftfielder Jadia Young was in perfect position to squeeze the final run of the inning.
In the bottom of the inning,
Inez Hudson hit a double off the centerfield fence that scored Myeisha Ellison from first. The Thorobrettes extended their lead to 3-0 with a 2-run blast off the bat of
Kenya Wilcots that scored Hudson.
The Lady Golden Bears struck back and tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning. Khardi Tolbert hit a double down the leftfield line that brought home Brianna Barrentine. MC catcher Tina Taylor then hit a 2-RBI double into centerfield that brought home Tolbert and Robyn Wallace.
KSU responded in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead, 5-3. After
Jacqualyn Paysinger drew a walk to reach first, starting centerfielder Ellison blasted a 2-run homerun over the right field wall on the first pitch she saw.
Kentucky State added a pair of runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 7-3.
Miles tried to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh and final inning. With two outs Keyana Chatman hit her third homerun of the day, blasting a 2-run homerun over the centerfield wall to cut the Thorobrettes lead to just two at 7-5. The next blasted a shot that was headed for left field but Jaramillo reached up at the last second and snagged the ball for the final out of the game.
Starting pitcher
Tayler Vierra (3-5) pitched a seven inning complete game against the Lady Golden Bears. Vierra allowed eight hits and four earned runs while striking out six MC batters.
Miles' starter Megan Honea (1-1) was given the loss after allowing five hits and seven earned runs in five innings of work on the mound.
