Kentucky State Secures Seventh Straight Victory With, 81-72, Win Against Miles

Box Score FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Kentucky State University men's basketball team defeated the Miles College Golden Bears for the second time this season with an, 81-72, victory on Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center.

Kentucky State honored its six seniors during the intermission between the women's and men's games on Saturday afternoon. The six seniors are guard Darquell Pulliam, forward Earl Ruffin Jr., center Brandon Darrett, forward John Gaston, guard Antonio Sullivan and guard Troy Adams.

Kentucky State (11-9, 9-5 SIAC) extends its impressive winning streak to seven games as they sweep Miles in the home and away season series. The Thorobreds defeated the Golden Bears, 67-66, on Jan. 25th in Fairfield, AL.

The win also help's the Thorobreds bolster their place in the SIAC West Division standings with just three SIAC games remaining on their regular season schedule. Kentucky State will travel to Stillman College, currently third in the rankings, for their final SIAC game of the regular season.

Miles (2-19, 2-11 SIAC) once against falls short against Kentucky State. Despite the loss, the Golden Bears don't play like a team that has only won two games this season. Miles jumped out to an early lead in the first half but were unable to sustain the hot shooting that gave them the early advantage.

Kentucky State was led offensively by Ulysses Thomas III who finished with 18 points in just 20 minutes of action. Thomas III was 5-for-8 from beyond the arc. Sullivan was also hot from deep finishing with 14 points, going 3-for-4 from 3-point range. Point guards Quentin Henderson and Devan Crain both finished with 11 points. Darrett finished the afternoon with eight points, seven rebounds and a game-high three blocks.

Miles guard Terrence Noel finished with a game-high 21 points but was held to just five points in the second half of Saturday's game. Carlos Clayborn had 13 points, four rebounds and two steals for the Golden Bears.

Next up for Kentucky State is a match-up with rival Central State this Monday, Feb. 10th, at the Frankfort Convention Center. The teams met in Wilberforce earlier this season when the Marauders topped the Thorobreds, 89-79.
