Thorobrettes Drop Pair in Tough Doubleheader Against #24 Barry

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Kentucky State University Thorobrettes softball team was swept in a doubleheader against the #24 Barry University Bucs on Sunday afternoon, 9-1 and 13-0, in a pair of five inning games at Buccaneer Field.
 
The Thorobrettes (0-3) were coming off a season opening loss to Alcorn State on Friday, Feb. 14th.
 
Barry (7-2) continued its strong start to the 2014 season with the win over Kentucky State, outscoring the Thorobrettes 22-1 in the doubleheader.
 
Game One
In the first game of Sunday's doubleheader the Bucs scored early and often and they jumped on top of the Thorobrettes early.
 
Tayler Vierra (0-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up seven hits and seven earned runs in two innings of work against the potent Barry offense.
 
Kentucky State freshman Shannon Byrum entered the game in relief to start the bottom of the third inning. Byrum was effective, allowing just three hits and one earned run in two innings of work while also picking up the first two strikeouts of her KSU career.
 
KSU picked up their solo run of the day in the top of the third inning when a muffed throw the Barry first baseman allowed Megan Jaramillo to cross the plate.
 
Camille Czarnecki (4-0) picked up the win for the Bucs after three innings of work. Czarnecki allowed just three hits and one unearned run on her way to the victory.
 
Game Two
Barry continued their hot hitting in the second game of Sundays doubleheader. The Bucs jumped on top of the Thorobrettes early and never looked back.
 
Danielle Acosta (0-2) was given the loss after surrendering nine hits and eight earned runs in two innings of work.
 
Tayler Vierra, the starter in game one, entered the game in relief for the Thorobrettes, allowing just three hits and one unearned run in two innings.
 
Barry's Britney Pugh (2-0) struck out six KSU batters and didn't allow a hit in five innings of work on Sunday.
 
Kentucky State continues its road trip with a doubleheader against Nova Southeastern on Monday afternoon at the AD Griffin Sports Complex in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and live stats can be found at http://www.sidearmstats.com/nova/softball/.
