Box Score WILBERFORCE, Ohio -- The Kentucky State University men's basketball team defeated the Wilberforce Bulldogs, 87-80, in a non-conference battle on Wednesday evening in Wilberforce, Ohio.
The Thorobreds, coming off a loss to Central State after a seven game winning streak, were able to get back on track by controlling almost every aspect of Wednesday's contest.
It was important that Kentucky State didn't let the tough loss to rival Central State carry over to the next game. "We bounced back tonight, so I'm proud of my guys for taking it one game at a time," Head Coach Antwain Banks said. "We've been telling our guys all year to stay in the moment and that's starting to sink in."
With the non-conference win the Thorobreds move to 12-10 overall.
Kentucky State was led offensively by Antonio Sullivan, who had a team-high 16 points against Wilberforce. Sullivan went 7-of-14 from the floor including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. Without starting center Brandon Darrett on Wednesday, Darrien Wilkins stepped up for KSU, finishing with 14 points, on 6-of-8 shooting, while also pulling down a career best 17 rebounds.
The Wilberforce Bulldogs were led by Cameron Luckett who had a game-high of 20 points.
That feisty defense of the Thorobreds caused 12 turnovers, while that unselfish offense spreaded the ball around for 12 assists.
Next up for Kentucky State is a match-up with Lane College this Saturday, Feb. 15th, in Jackson, TN. The teams met in Frankfort earlier this season when the Thorobreds defeated Lane 86-62.
