Kentucky State Pulls Out Win Against Winless Miles, 67-66

Box Score FAIRFIELD, Ala. -- The Kentucky State University men's basketball team held on for a victory over the winless Miles College Golden Bears, 67-66, in an SIAC game on Saturday afternoon at the Bill Harris Arena.

Kentucky State (7-9, 5-5 SIAC) moves to .500 in SIAC action for the first time this season. The Thorobreds are also riding a season-high three game winning streak. The Miles Golden Bears (0-17, 0-9 SIAC) continue to search for answers after missing out on their first win the season.

The Golden Bears built their lead to as many as 12 points in the first half but the Thorobreds kept the game close and built a three point lead going into the intermission, 37-34.

KSU shot 57% from the floor in the first half but was ice cold from 3-point range, going 0-for-7. For the game, the Thorobreds connected on just 13% (2-for-16) from long range but those two 3-pointers were difference makers.

With less than 10 minutes left in the game, Miles had built their lead up to six points, leading KSU, 50-44.

Kentucky State then went on a 10-2 run including back-to-back 3-pointers from Ulysses Thomas III which gave KSU a two point lead at 54-52 with about six minutes remaining in the game.

The Thorobreds wouldn't surrender the lead from the rest of the game, holding on for a crucial SIAC victory.

Senior Troy Adams had a team-high 20 points for Kentucky State on Saturday, a season-high for him. Adams also contributed with a team-high four assists. Brandon Darrett picked up his seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds against Miles.

Terrence Noel had a game-high 21 points, going 12-for-13 from the free-throw line, but also had five turnovers.

Kentucky State continues its road trip when they head to Memphis, TN for a match-up with the LeMoyne-Owen Magicians on Monday, Jan. 27th, with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
