Jasper, Ala. - On the final day of the SIAC Crossover Tournament the KSU softball team cruised past Paine College, 18-0, in their first game but dropped their final game of the tournament to Benedict College, 5-2.
Kentucky State senior outfielder
Jasmine Anderson was named to the All-Tournament Team after compiling a .316 batting average and earning a perfect fielding percentage during the three day tournament.
In game one, Kentucky State was in control from the first pitch to the final out, winning by a final tally of 18-0.
Senior third baseman
Rikki Martinez led the way for the Thorobrettes, going 3-for-5 from the plate with three runs scored and six RBI. KSU catcher
Megan Jaramillo was a perfect 4-for-4 for the game with four RBI.
Brooke Nwosu earned the victory for Kentucky State by pitching a five inning shutout. Nwosu gave up just two hits and no walks in her five innings of work.
In its final game of the tournament, Kentucky State fell short against Benedict College, 5-2.
KSU was limited to just four hits in the game but drew seven walks as a team. Unfortunately, the Thorobrettes couldn't convert those base runners, leaving nine runners on base during the game.
Lorena Villamar went 2-for-3 from the plate with one RBI.
Tayler Vierra was given the loss despite pitching a seven inning complete game and striking out four Lady Tigers. Vierra allowed nine hits and gave up five earned runs during the contest.
Kentucky States next game is at home against Tuskegee University this Saturday, March 23, in Frankfort, Ky.
