FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Kentucky State Thorobreds defeated the Central State Marauders, 68-67, in a thriller at the Frankfort Convention Center on Thursday, February 14th. KSU secured the victory when a three point shot by Senior Patrick Dawson put the Thorobreds ahead with just five second left in regulation.
 
With the victory Kentucky State gets back to .500 on the season at 11-11 overall and remains 8-6 in SIAC action.
 
Central State falls to 15-7 overall and 3-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
 
Dawson's go-ahead three point shot was part of his team high 25 points. Dawson, who shot 56 percent from the floor, also added four rebounds and two assists. Ulysses Thomas III chipped in with 18 points including a thunderous slam in the second half of the game. John Gaston provided some much needed help on the glass pulling down a team high 10 rebounds.
 
The Marauder's were led by speedy guard Phillip Gates who scored 18 points and dished out three assists for Central State. CSU big man LeDonte Body added 14 points and six rebounds in the losing effort.
 
As a team the Marauders shot better statistically than the Thorobreds. CSU shot 49 percent from the floor while KSU shot just over 44 percent. Kentucky State held a slight rebounding edge, securing 32 boards to Central States 28 total rebounds.
 
However, none of the statistics mattered in the final seconds when Dawson rose from the top of the key and buried a three point shot that secured the Thorobreds victory. Gates had a shot at grabbing back victory for Marauders when his full court heave clanged off the rim as time expired.
 
In the end, Kentucky State was able to exact some revenge for their, 74-65, defeat the night before at the hands of the Marauders.
 
Kentucky State has a day off before their conference match-up against Lane College this Saturday, Feb. 16^th. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. at the Exum Center in Frankfort, Ky.
