ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its Men's and Women's Basketball Players of the Week for week three of the 2013-14 basketball season.

The SIAC Men's Newcomer of the Week award was given to Kentucky State's junior forward Darrien Wilkins, who had a solid game against #11 Southern Indiana this past week.

Wilkins, who came off the bench, had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor in the Thorobreds 92-69 loss to the Screaming Eagles. He also added a team-high seven rebounds, a block and a steal in the loss.

Junior combo guard/forward Ulysses Thomas III was noted for his team-high 19 points and six rebounds against the Screaming Eagles.

On the women's side, LaShell West and Taylor Sanders were recognized for their stellar play in last week's upset victory over Southern Indiana.

West, a senior guard for the Thorobrettes, scored 21 points while adding seven rebounds, three assist and two steals in the 78-72 win over Southern Indiana.

Sanders, Kentucky States starting point guard, had 14 points, a team-high five assist, three steals and two rebounds in the Thorobrettes only contest last week.

Both teams will have a break before heading down to Albany, Georgia to face Albany State in their first SIAC action of the season.
