Thorobreds Fall to Rival Central State, 89-79

Box Score WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Kentucky State University Thorobreds (1-1) fell to rival Central State University Marauders (1-0), 89-79, this past Saturday in a non-conference men's basketball game.

Central State, who pushed their lead to as many as 19 points at one point in the second half, controlled the contest throughout. The Marauders outrebound KSU 45-37 over the course of the game and shot 47% (7-of-15) from beyond the arc compared to just 33% (8-of-24) for the Thorobreds.

Despite the outcome there were some bright spots for the Thorobreds.

Senior Earl Ruffin provided a needed scoring boost off the bench in the first half, picking up 10 of his 12 points in the opening half. Ruffin shot 5-for-7 from the floor in the game, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. The KSU bench outscored the Central State bench 38-32.

Junior Ulysses Thomas III, who is averaging 18 points per game this season, scored a team high 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting. Thomas also added four rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Junior big man Markus Montague had a solid game finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds and a game high five blocks. The Thorobreds tallied an impressive 11 blocks as a team but many were sent flying out of bounds, keeping the ball in Central State's possession.

Guard Marquis Wilson was the top scorer for the Marauders finishing with 22 points, four assists and three steals.

Center Anthony Adams Rule was a force on the interior for CSU pulling down a game high 15 rebounds while also adding 10 points and two blocks.

The two teams will see eachother again when Central State travels to Frankfort, Ky. on Feb. 10th. The teams will play their annual game at the Frankfort Convention Center.

Next up for Kentucky State is a home game against Virginia University of Lynchburg on Friday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Exum Center.
