This is just the second meeting between the Thorobreds and Lions and both will be seeking their first win of the 2012 campaign. Last week the Thorobreds dropped a 13-6 decision to Kentucky Wesleyan College, while the Lions fell 0-82 to Wofford College.

In their game against the Panthers, KSU gained 192 total offensive yards, including 116 in the air. Senior quarterback Martez James went 7-21 passign with one interception. Redshirt Freshman and backup quarterback Joey Pierce came into the game and threw 4-9 and scored the Breds only touchdown, on a 24-yard run. The Breds' defense was strong, as Kenny Townsend had a career- and game-high 14 total tackles and was named the SIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance. Townsend, a 6-foot-3 263-pound lineman from Louisville, KY, also had a career day with 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.

The Lions battled Football Championship Subdivision member Wofford College in an 82-0 loss in Spartanburg, S.C. Doug Cook paced the Lions (0-2) through the air by throwing for 130 yards on 15-of-25 passing. Gerald Swain led the ground game with 30 yards on 12 carries. Philip Jean-Juste finished with eight receptions for 57 yards and Matt Coston added 52 yards on five catches. Defensively, Tim Green, Brion Robinson and Gavin Lampkin each had six solo tackles.

Last season, the two teams met in a highly anticipated home opener for the Thorobreds. After four quarters, the Breds galloped past the Lions 43-27.

Lincoln won the coin toss and deferred to the second half and the Thorobreds elected to receive the opening kick. During the opening drive, quarterback, Jerrel Noland threw his first interception of the season resulting in a 39 yard touchdown for Lincoln.

In retaliation, KSU senior defensive back, Keith Massey, returned a kick for 79 yards and freshman kicker, Cade Berryman assisted in tying the game 7-7, making the PAT.

Kentucky State closed the first half with Noland making two 1 yard rushing touchdowns, combined with a rushing touchdown by Andrew Ramsey, giving the Breds a 28-14 lead at halftime.

Kentucky State added nine points in the third quarter that extended the Thorobreds' lead to 37-20. In the fourth quarter, Berryman nailed a 43-yard field goal with 7:30 to play, giving the Breds a 20-point lead (40-20), but Lincoln marched down the field and scored on a 24-yard pass from Cook to Garlin Gardner, bringing the score to 40-27, in favor of the Breds. With 2:02 to play in the game, Berryman made a 39-yard field goal to bring the score to its final 43-27.

Lincoln's quarterback, Doug Cook, went 16-33 for 202 yards and one (1) touchdown, while Laquan Williams chipped in with four completions for 47 yards. Matthew Coston led the Lions receiving corps with seven (7) catches for 110 yards.

KSU quarterback, Noland, threw for 205 yards and one interception on 15-22 passing. Senior, Raphael Amey led the offense with five receptions for 116 yards (long of 53).

The Thorobred defense was paced Cory Spalding leading with 12 tackles. Terry Horton and Carlos Ware assisted on the defensive end with one sack each.

On nine (9) kickoffs, Berryman averaged 50 yards per kick for 450 yards and nailed three field goals from 26, 43 and 39 yards.
