Kenny Townsend Tabbed SIAC Defensive Player of the Week

Box Score Atlanta, GA—The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football Players of the Week for the second week of the 2012 season.

Offensive Player of the Week
Morehouse senior running back David Carter was named the SIAC Offensive Player of the Week. The Marietta, GA native broke the school's all-time rushing record in the Maroon Tigers 39-18 victory over Edward Waters. Carter rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns, and improved his career total to 3, 848 yards.

Defensive Player of the Week
Kenny Townsend of Kentucky State was named the SIAC Defensive Player of the Week. Townsend, a 6-foot-3 263-pound lineman from Louisville, KY, had a game-high 14 tackles and three sacks in the Thorobreds 13-6 loss to Kentucky Wesleyan. The junior also had a career day with 4.5 tackles for loss.


Newcomer of the Week
SIAC Newcomer of the Week was awarded to Lane College wide receiver Hollis Moore. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound target from Memphis, TN was the Dragons Quarterback Chris Rini's favorite target. Moore caught 10 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown in Lane's 20-17 loss to Clark Atlanta.

Lineman of the Week
Morehouse offensive lineman Richard Washington was named SIAC Lineman of the Week. The 6-foot-8 sophomore from Washington, DC anchored the Maroon Tigers offensive line that gained 444 yards. Morehouse also averaged 5.2 yards per play, and scored six-out-of seven trips to the red zone.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Stillman College wide receiver Dondre Purnell was named SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week. The sophomore from Powder Springs, Ga had four kickoff returns for 124 yards, including a long of 74 yards, in the Tigers 31-0 loss to Ouachita Baptist.

Honorable Mention
Jessie Atkins, Soph, WR-Albany State
Accomplishment: Atkins caught six passes for 144 yards, including a 62-yard touchdown reception, in the Golden Rams 37-9 loss to Wingate.

Charles King, Jr., QB-Clark Atlanta
Accomplishments: Passed for 111 yards and scored the game-wining touchdown in CAU's 20-17 win over Lane.

Derrick Washington, SR, RB-Tuskegee
Accomplishments: Had 17 carries for 155 yards and two touchdowns in the inaugural Inner City Classic game 35-17 win over Johnson C. Smith.

Ronrico Dunn, Soph, SS-Stillman
Accomplishments: Had nine tackles in the 31-0 loss against Ouachita Baptist

Chris Rini, Jr, QB-Lane
Accomplishments: Rini completed 18 of 28 passes for 232 yards and 2 touchdowns in the 20-17 heartbreaking loss to Clark Atlanta. Rini also led the rushing attack with 19 carries for 77 yards.

Stevon McGill, Jr, DB - Clark Atlanta
Accomplishments: McGill recorded six solo tackles along with one sack and one tackle for a loss.

DaMonta Searcy, Soph, DE - Benedict
Accomplishments: Had one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries for two touchdowns. Returned his first fumble 74 yards for a touchdown. Had six total tackles and one tackle for loss for -1 yards.

Tavarius Washington, Fr, LB - Albany State
Accomplishments: Tavarius Washington led ASU's "Dirty Blue" defense with 13 tackles, including five solo tackles and two for a losses. He also recorded a pass breakup.

Antonio Ford, Fr, RB - Clark Atlanta
Accomplishments: Rushed for 89 yards on 25 carries with one touchdown.

Leron Furr, Jr, LB - Fort Valley State
Accomplishments: Game high nine tackles (5 solo, 4 asst); One sack; and four tackles for losses totaling 18 yards.

Shelton Hamilton, So, RB - Morehouse
Accomplishments: Hamilton rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown, in a win over Edward Waters College.

Zachary Holley, Fr, K - Albany State
Accomplishments: Zachary Holley kicked a 26-yard field goal to put three points on the board for the Golden Rams in their loss to Wingate.

Kyle Sarjeant, Fr, OL - Clark Atlanta
Accomplishments: Held Lane to only one sack and one TFL

Octavio Wilson, So, OL - Lane
Accomplishments: Wilson was the anchor to the offensive line which produced 352 yards of total offense in the 20-17 loss to the Panthers. Wilson did not allow a sack and had 3 pancakes.

David Castillo, Fr, K - Lane
Accomplishments Castillo continues to be perfect on PAT and FG's. Adding two more PAT's and a 25 yard FG to his streak. He also had 4 kick-offs for 164 yards.

Zachary Holley, Fr, K - Albany State
Accomplishments: Zachary Holley kicked a 26-yard field goal to put three points on the board for the Golden Rams in their loss to Wingate.

Justin Rosenbaum, Sr, P - Fort Valley State
Accomplishments: Nine punts totaling 420 yards. Averaged 46.7 yards per punt. His longest was 59 yards.

Thomas Williams, Jr, KR - Morehouse
Accomplishments: Williams retuned 3 kickoffs 117 yards, including one for 79 yards, the longest play of the game. He also returned a punt for 8 yards.
