Brettes make appearance in Citrus Classic

Lake Buena Vista, Fla.- Kentucky State University participated in the 2012 Citrus Classic, which took place at Disney World in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The Thorobrettes played Saint Leo University and No. 2 North Georgia University on Saturday, Feb. 25.
 
The Brettes started their day with a game against Saint Leo. In the top of the First the Lions came out offensively strong scoring five runs. The Brettes made a strong effort on the offensive end. Shenaaz Burrell homered, and batted in Angelica Galindo who had been walked before Burrell's at bat (2-5).
 
In the second inning the Lions got one runner around the bases before the Brettes ended the inning with strike-out by Burrell. In the bottom of the second Rikki Martinez and Caitlyn Pierotti each got on base with a single, and were batted home with a home run by Jasmine McQueen (5-6).
 
Neither team scored in the third. Then, the Lions came out swinging once again in the fourth inning scoring five runs (11-5). The Brettes unfortunately could not answer the Lions' runs.
 
The Lions continued their offensive momentum scoring two runs in the fifth inning, and the Brettes continued to struggle offensively in the bottom of the fifth. The game ended with a score of 5-13. The Brettes' record at the end of the game was 0-6, and Lions' record was 12-6.
 
Later in the day against North Georgia the game started off with neither team scoring in the first inning. After the Brettes were unable to put up any runs in the top of the second inning the Saints clicked offensively scoring seven runs in the bottom of the second inning (7-0).
 
The offensive struggle continued through the fourth inning, but the Saints continued to dominate by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth (11-0). The game ended after the Brettes were unable to score in the top of the fifth. With the completion of the game the Brettes' record was 0-7, and the Saints' record was 14-3.
