KSU Falters in Second Home Game of the Season

In front of an enthused fan section, the Tigers defense held Kentucky State's offense in check. Stillman defeated the Thorobreds 31-29.

Kentucky State won the coin toss and elected to receive the opening kick. Both teams started off rocky but that changed when freshman, Jacquise Lockett ran for a one yard touchdown. 15 seconds into the second the Tigers tied the game with Deandre Holley rushing for 7 yards.

Keith Massey struck back with a 94 yard kick return. Massey has returned kicks in back to back weeks. Kicker, Cade Berryman, ends his perfect kicking streak this week with a failed kick attempt.
Stillman College closed the first half Dondre Purnell catching a pass from Desmond Holloway.

Alejandro Perez-Huerta extra point attempt was good, giving the Tigers a one point lead at the half.
The Tigers added seven points in the third quarter while the Thorobreds were able to gain three points on a field goal. In the fourth quarter, the visiting team passed for 19 yards resulting in a touchdown. With 9:31 left to play; Raphael Amey moved the score closer with an 84 yard kick return. The Breds attempt to be in a four point reach of the Tigers with a failed attempt of a two-point conversion. After the tigers kicked a good field goal, Noland rushed for a one yard touchdown bring the score within two points.

Quarterback, Noland threw for 146 yards and one interception on 11-21. For the second consecutive week, Amey led the offense with four receptions and two punt returns, for a combined total of 191 yards. Freshman, Justin Williams helped the offensive with 83 yards rushed.

The Thorobreds defense was led by Deshon Best with 12 tackles. Carlos Ware assisted in defense with five tackles and a sack resulting in a loss of six yards.

With this loss, the Thorobreds move to 2-1 on the season and 0-1 in the SIAC. Kentucky State travels to Owensboro, KY next Saturday, September 24, 2011 to take on the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. (CST).
