Atlanta, GA—Benedict third baseman Cherae Rice and Benedict sophomore LaKeeya Ramsey have been named SIAC Softball East Division Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week respectively. Kentucky State shortstop
Jenna Shingary and Tuskegee second baseman Tameria Brown have been named SIAC Softball West Division Co-Players of the Week while Kentucky State junior
Danielle Garay has been named West Division Pitcher of the Week.
Rice, a native of Columbia, SC, had three hits, including a home run and two doubles, with a .600 batting average and a 1.600 slugging percentage in two games. The 5-9 senior drove in five runs while also scoring four and had an on-base percentage of .856. Defensively, Rice had a .909 fielding percentage while helping lead Benedict to wins over Shaw, 9-1 and 12-6.
Ramsey pitched two complete games with nine total strikeouts. The Summerville, GA native finished the week 2-0 with a 4.08 ERA.
Brown, a native of Eclectic, AL, was 14-for-20, including three home runs, with a .700 batting average and a 1.150 slugging percentage. The 5-7 junior had 13 RBIs and scored 10 runs with two stolen bases and a .750 on-base percentage. Defensively, Brown had a .800 fielding percentage while helping lead the Lady Golden Tigers to a 5-3 record with a win over Kentucky State and four wins over Lane.
Shingary, a native of New Concord, OH, had nine hits, including three home runs and three doubles, with a .563 batting average and a 1.313 slugging percentage. The 5-5 freshman drove in 10 runs and scored nine with a .650 on-base percentage. Defensively, Shingary was solid with a .857 fielding percentage. She helped lead the Thorobrettes to a 6-1 record with victories over LeMoyne-Owen and Tuskegee.
In three appearances, Garay pitched two complete games with 19 strikeouts and no walks. The Bay City, TX native was 3-0 for the week with a 3.75 ERA.
