FRANKFORT, Ky--For the third consecutive year, the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Championship will be held in Columbus, GA. The 2011 championship is set to begin April 21-23, 2011 at the South Commons Sports Complex.
The South Commons Softball Complex and Stadium has seven fields and a stadium field that hosts hundreds of local league competitions. In its short history, the complex has also hosted dozens of local, state, regional, national and even international softball competitions such as the Superball Classic. The Superball Classic has gained recognition as the premier amateur women's softball event hosting international teams such as Japan, China, Australia, and Brazil along with USA. The complex also hosted the Women's Fast-pitch Competition during the 1996 Olympic Games.
The Thorobrettes enter this year's championship tournament as the No. 2 seed in the West Division, behind Tuskegee University, with a record of 17-18 overall, 17-8 in the SIAC, 15-4 in the West Division. With hope of dethroning the 2010 Chamions, the Lady Rams of Albany State, KSU takes on the winner of the game between East No. 3 Benedict College and West No. 4 Stillman College on Thursday, April 21 at 1 p.m. During the regular season, the Thorobrettes fell to Benedict 1-7 in the SIAC Crossover Tournament. They ended the season; however, beating the Lady Tigers of Stillman in two out of three games, solidifying their spot as the No. 2 seed in the West.
