KSU Softball Participates in SIAC Crossover

Jasper, AL – The KSU Softball program played a total of 6 games in the SIAC Crossover.

The Thorobrettes first match-up was played against Claflin University. The game proved to be a solid defensive effort from both teams. Claflin would take the 2-1 victory over the Thorobrettes due to a late run in the 8th inning from Center Fielder L. Carter.

KSU's next game would be against the Wildcats of Fort Valley State. KSU's Right Fielder Destiney Finch would start the game with a run that put the Thorobrettes ahead 1-0 for the first 2 innings. Fort Valley State managed to earn a run in the 2nd inning from 3rd Baseman Krist Powell. The two teams would battle it out for the next 5 innings with neither team earning a run until Fort Valley's Shortstop Wateria Hall produced a run late in the 7th inning to end the game. Fort Valley took the hard fought victory 2-1 over KSU.

The Thorobrettes took on the Lady Panthers of Clark Atlanta next. KSU took a tough 9-4 loss to Clark despite a great runs from Right Fielder Destiney Finch and Catcher Caitlyn Pierotti. The Lady Panthers opened the game with 5 earned runs that would put them in a permanent lead. KSU couldn't produce enough runs to pull back into the game.

KSU faced Albany State next in a tough match-up in Memorial Park. KSU's Catcher Caitlyn Pierotti, Pitcher Shenaaz Burrell, and 3rd Baseman Danielle Garay began the game with runs that advanced the Brettes score to 3-0. KSU's Catcher Caitlyn Pierotti would explode for a homerun along with a run by Danielle Garay in the 2nd inning to push the lead to 5-0. Through the next 5 innings, Albany State would pull back into the game with runs in the 4th and 5th innings to come within one run of tying the game but KSU maintained the lead and ended the game 5-4.

KSU would go on to challenge Paine College. The Thorobrettes would dominate the Lady Lions in an 8-1 victory. A collaborative effort from the whole team pushed KSU past Paine with ease.

The final game for the Thorobrettes would be against Benedict College. The Brettes could not withstand the quality hitting that Benedict came into the game with. KSU's Caitlyn Pierotti scored the only run for KSU as the Thorobrettes took a tough loss to Benedict 7-1.
