ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Kentucky State Thorobrettes traveled to Atlanta, Ga. On Tuesday, March 1 to take on conference foe, Clark Atlanta, ending a two-week road trip that also took the to Mississippi and Florida. The matchup against CAU was set to be played at 2 and 4 p.m.; however, inclement weather forced them to play just one game at 4 p.m.
The Brettes started hot. In the first inning,
Destiney Finch (Detroit, Mich.) reached first base on an overthrown ball. Finch would advance to second on a single to left center by
Lamara Parker (Liberty Township, Ohio), and both Parker and Finch advanced on as
Shenaaz Burrell (Los Angeles, Calif.) was walked to load the bases. With nowhere to put additional runners, Finch scored on another CAU error, putting the Brettes up 1-0. Parker scored KSU's second run of the inning after CAU's Ashley Brooks walked
Jenna Shingary (New Concord, Ohio).
Parker's run would be the Brettes last of the game. CAU scored three runs in the third inning and in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lakeisha Pruitt drilled a three-run homer to centerfield, giving the Lady Panthers a 6-2 lead.
The Thorobrettes were unable to overcome the four-run deficit in the top of the seventh inning, and the game ended with KSU falling to CAU 2-6.
The Thorobrettes are now 0-7 overall. Beginning with this 2011 season, SIAC Softball moved to an East-West Division layout, causing the game between CAU and KSU not to be counted as a conference game because they're now in separate divisions.
The Thorobrettes have their home opener Sunday, March 6 against Tuskegee University. First pitch is at 12 noon.
